After just over 5 years on the market, Sony’s cloud gaming service has reached 700,000 users! Those are pretty impressive numbers for a tech that is still in the early adopter phase. Since the launch of the service, Sony has seen an average userbase growth of 40% per year. Before launching the PS Now service, in 2012 Sony acquired Gaikai which was in the early stages of offering a cloud gaming service. In addition, they also acquired assets from OnLive in 2015.
While PlayStation Now is primarily a cloud gaming service, in late 2018 they made the move to offer direct downloads for PS2 and PS4 games in the library. This may have helped with the continued growth, but this still looks highly promising for the cloud gaming market.
